Art Directors

Lorrina Al-khouri / Talia Valderrama

As art directors, we had the great task of leading our talented team throughout the process of creating this wonderful publication with Greg Hughes, our advisor. We were responsible for the coordination and efficient running of the publication and extra content. Our first task was to create a style guide with the assistance of the editors and design team. Our main challenge was ensuring all areas of the publications, from image direction, tone and layout design, were consistent and in line with the publication’s branding and style guide.

Throughout the process, our goal was to make sure the publication and website were platforms that called on free expression and the various skills of each design student. It truly is something we are proud of.

Digital Design Team

Darko Psenosil / Samantha Molluso

As the digital design team, we were responsible for the design and development of our interactive website. Our vision was to present everyone’s works in a dynamic layout with their images coming to life through their individual clips displayed on top of each article.

This was achieved through extensive planning and meticulously following and adapting to the style and theme of our print publication. Our aim was to create a digital component of the magazine, which led to the development and completion of an interactive and responsive website that was built from ground up.

Image Directors

Phoenix Vaiotu / Kristen Ensbey / Ashley Grech / Micaela Philips

As Image Directors and Project Documenters we were in charge of the task of overseeing the visual content that will be used throughout the magazine. We were in charge of deciding and developing the theme of the images and illustrative content that would be used throughout the magazine. This included the style and techniques used in the type of treatment taken with the images and how the images could be taken. We at times would also help to assist in the taking of the article images. We had to take into consideration the different content of everyone’s article and provide necessary feedback to the each individual of the magazine with necessary advice or direction in how they could best represent their article visually, but remain consistent to the style of the magazine. We as a team were also tasked with documenting the process and creation of the magazine. This included viewing and recording each stage of production taken with the magazine and putting together into one final video creation. As part of the video documentation we conducted interviews of team representative on the teams role and how they are progressing at that current stage. Our team also photographed each team member’s portrait to be included in the online version of our website.

Designers

Bridgette Kohnertz / Meherjot Singh

The Design Team was responsible for the visual layout of the publication, which was crucial in achieving a consistent aesthetic throughout the magazine. Our main role was to make decisions regarding the grid system and typography, both of which were essentially the backbone of the publication. It was also our responsibility to provide advice and feedback on each individual layout to ensure it was meeting the needs of the style guide and theme, and was consistent in the dynamic flow of the magazine.

Extra Content

Amanda Perkin / Ryan Chau / Gordon Tanuvasa / Nathan Linny

As the Extra Content Managers we were in charge of developing and creating extra content and artwork for the print and online publication. We created a cover sleeve as part of the packaging design for the publication, along with bookmarks and a poster that featured each team member’s artwork. And we also contributed to the contents page and the reference page. As part of our online content, we assisted in the production of the short-animations for each team member’s artwork on the website. We did this by assisting team members who created their own, and we created animations for those who were unable to. Different effects were also created for the videos, such as the ink videography which was created with team Image. We also managed the Instagram account which showed the lead up to the exhibition, previews of individual articles, typographic artwork and more. A Facebook event page was also set up for promotional artwork and details about the launch of our publication at the exhibition.

Editors

Elizabeth Green / Georgia Smith

Team Editors were in charge of overlooking every single word within our publication to ensure that we achieved absolute perfection. We started by working with the class to develop an overarching theme, philosophy and a writing style guide for the students to adhere to. We then proofread every article at least twice to ensure they were consistently structured and written with a similar tone of voice, while still showcasing everyone’s individual style. After this we collaborated with the Art Directors on the publication’s pagination. Finally, just to be completely certain that nothing was missed and everything was perfect, we gave the publication one more proofread before it went to print.

Production Managers

Courtney Newman / Samantha Reinke

As Studio and Production Managers, our responsibilities included creating a base for the studio to communicate on and managing the studios tasks and ensuring they were completed on time. We also worked on ensuring the budget was maintained and monitored throughout our process and worked together with other team members to collect quotes and organize different production elements, including printing of the publication, posters, t-shirts and other extra content elements as well.

Advisor

Greg Hughes

As advisor I was responsible for facilitating a print and online publication production experience for the team. This role is a balancing act between intentional impartiality and anti-inertia maneuvers to allow the team to generate their own production momentum. The effect of the role on me personally is similar to experiencing a combination of Burke and Kant’s ‘sublime;’ absolute terror in the face of reason and natural wonder. In other words, a vortex of stress and excitement that’s like watching a car crash in slow motion, suddenly hitting the fast-forward button and the whole experience spirals into something beautiful. As advisor, I’m proud of the applied creative outcomes achieved by the team and believe the team should be too.
