In October 2019 we brought together 21 young people from across Australia to have their voices heard at the News Champions Forum, hosted at the Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) in Canberra as part of Media Literacy Week. This event was part of the Advancing the News Media Literacy of Young Australians research project. Following this event, the research team have encouraged, mentored and supported the young participants to speak to their local communities and to media organisations about their experiences of news and their aspirations for its future. This year, as part of Media Literacy Week, the young participants will launch a news poll they designed in partnership with ABC Education and the research team. The news poll and associated learning activity aims to generate a much broader public discussion about young people and news literacy in Australia.
